Apple vs. Samsung row gets even uglier as Apple drops Samsung as chip supplier and turns to TSMC for SoCs

// October 16th, 2012 // Mobile

Apple has been reducing their dependence on Samsung for over a year now as the two battle it out in courts over often frivolous patent disputes. Now a senior Samsung official told the Korea Times that Apple has made it clear that they no longer intend to use Samsung technology in their products.

Speculation at the time is that Apple will switch to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for production of their next generation SoCs. TSMC is the world’s largest contract chip manufacturer. It is believed that Apple is already working with TSMC to produce the future chips.

According to CNET:

“The relationship between Apple and Samsung has deteriorated so much that the two are now just filling contractual obligations before Apple makes a change.”

Yes, it sounds slightly similar to the Google Maps fiasco so let’s hope it doesn’t end of burning iPhone fans in the end.
