Curiosity Rover finds mysterious metallic object while scooping its first soil samples [UPDATE]

Curiosity Rover scooped its first soil samples yesterday and while scooping, took a picture of something that NASA cannot identify. It’s a small, silver metallic looking chip or flake of some kind. It could be something left over from the MSL descent mechanisms or some previously unknown soil anomaly. NASA will put aside further soil samples for now and focus on the newfound object.
UPDATE 10/10/12: NASA still cannot give a definitive identification of the object but stated that they are fairly certain it is a piece of plastic from Curiosity Rover.
UPDATE: NASA definitively determined that the object was indeed a piece of plastic from Curiosity Rover.
