Reality matches movie special effects in this video of a burning wooden bridge in San Saba, Texas. The 900-foot railroad bridge runs across the Colorado River between San Saba and Lometa in the state of Texas. Firefighters spent 15 hours attempting to extinguish the fire, but lacking the proper equipment, they eventually gave up, deciding to just let it burn out. The bridge, built in 1910 will cost $10 million to replace.
The video was captured via videophone by volunteer firefighter Jamie Smart, from Lometa, Texas. Authorities are trying to determine what sparked the fire on the bridge that was still used to haul freight. The area is about 100 miles northwest of Austin.
